The Rane Four-channel stem DJ controller intends to offer extreme control over Serato DJ Pro software, for high performance-focused DJs. Following the Rane one, this the first ever 4-channel DJ controller released from Rane. The Jog wheel has a fixed 8.5” platters are built for the best scratch possible and it has good low latency (responds swiftly), and in addition to that, it has a high-end serato unit which center’s on the pro-standard hardware FX, profound Stems capability, and external double PC USBs, double mics, and all the inputs and output expected to be on it.
The unit is indeed a classic one. The variety, the styling, the parts etc. are top notch. It’s really a durable, reliable gear and one of the most handful and exceptional controllers we can ever imagine with a proper detachable top plate so you can seamlessly get to the faders for servicing and fixing.
The center mixer
The center mixer has a standard bottom part which contains 4 separate faders instead of 2, so it’s really not just a scratch mixer but it’s a kind of a performance mixer that has a brillant crossfader added to it.
The mixer design resembles a hybrid between a club mixer and a scratch mixer. It has the paddle and FX area you see on Rane controller mixers, however it also has four channels, and selectable channel FX. It is compacted yet doesn’t feel cramped, and has all that you’d expect, including a split cue button on the earphones section.
That particular section is arranged around the front, alongside the crossfader assign and shape controls, and the controls for the second mic (the controls for the first mic is situated on the mixer right in the top).
The rear of the mixer has both balance and unbalance outs, balance booth out, input for two external channels switchable between line and phono, two USB inputs for PCs, and an IEC power socket.
The Deck and Stem
The 8.5″ platters with inner display that show waveforms, key info., time passed, BPM, position in music in addition to a digital “sticker” for scratching, the two indistinguishable decks have tremendous RGB rubberized cushions, stunning OLED and big, “clicky” plastic play/pause and cue buttons.
The pitch sliders are long and smooth, and there is an extraordinary beat bounce section per deck, with a size selector knob and left/right buttons. Basically, you find all the controls you’d expect including loop controls, slip/censor, library navigation, pitch bend, key adjust and so-on on it.
The deck contains an Acapella and Instrumental buttons that can give you on the spot acapellas and instrumentals anytime, anywhere. But the sound quality you’ll get changes depending on the quality of the song, yet is almost consistently usable, and in some cases astonishingly great.
Going further into the stem pad area, you can isolate or eliminate vocals, tunes, bass and drums, and you do that by tapping the main four performance pad for the deck you’re playing on.
Another combo, is the stem split which is more or less like “instant double” (where you duplicate the song on one deck to the other), however here, you can be playing a track, hit the Stems Split button, and it puts the acapella on one track, and the instrumental on the nearby channel. With that, you can utilize the channel faders to change, and add FX, EQ, filters, etc to each, similarly as though you were in a real sense playing two renditions of the tune on two channels. Awesome yeah!
